07 · WHERE I STAND

How should a councillor explain a major vote?

Posting an agenda is required. Helping residents understand a decision, the cost and what happens next is a responsibility I would take personally.

MY POSITION

Where I stand

For major votes, I want to publish a short plain-language note that links the public report, explains the decision, identifies the cost when relevant, states my vote and says what happens next.

Transparency also means correcting information when a number changes or when I get something wrong. Accuracy matters more than defending an old post.

I would rather explain a difficult decision than hide behind vague language.

Current Cornwall facts

These are the factual pieces I am using as the baseline. They are separated from my opinion on purpose.

What Council actually controls

An individual councillor cannot unilaterally change every City process, but can explain their own votes, ask questions on the record, link residents to public documents, and support stronger reporting practices through Council.

What I would ask for

Before

Link the agenda item or staff report and identify the actual decision Council is being asked to make.

At Council

Ask the question on the record where practical so the answer is public too.

After

Publish a short explanation of my vote and the next step.

Later

Return to major decisions when results are available and say whether the intended outcome happened.
