Where I stand
I do not want municipal candidates to pretend City Council controls the provincial healthcare system. Cornwall can still support physician recruitment, advocate for local needs and take its direct responsibilities for municipal long-term care seriously.
For seniors, access to transit, housing, public spaces and clear City services also matters because quality of life is not limited to healthcare.
Current Cornwall facts
These are the factual pieces I am using as the baseline. They are separated from my opinion on purpose.
What Council actually controls
Council directly oversees municipal funding and capital decisions for Glen Stor Dun Lodge and can support physician-recruitment and advocacy initiatives. It does not control hospitals, primary-care funding or provincial health policy.
What I would ask for
Long-term-care capital renewal, resident safety and service quality deserve the same budget discipline as other major assets.
Track physician-recruitment outcomes and the municipal contribution to those programs.
Transit, housing, sidewalks, recreation and accessible communication all affect seniors.
Advocate to Ontario where the problem is provincial instead of promising a municipal fix that Council cannot deliver.
